Welcome to the Rotary Club of Petaluma’s web site. The theme of this year’s Rotary is “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands.”
From its beginning in 1923 the members of The Rotary Club of Petaluma have been very active in local community projects and in supporting international projects around the world. Our members are diverse in age, backgrounds, professions and life experiences.
In the local community, we have upgraded playgrounds and picnic areas, provided benches throughout the city, Rotary Plaza on the Petaluma campus of Santa Rosa Junior College and actively supported youth activities. We have also distributed clothing and toys to over 250 less fortunate children at Christmas time. Our principal community project for this year is to support Mentor Me Petaluma and polio eradication with our new fundraiser, The Art & Equestrian Festival.
In 1999 a literacy program was started and every third grader in the Petaluma Area was given a dictionary. This program has become so successful that it has expanded nationwide. Last year over 32,000 dictionaries were distributed by Rotary Clubs throughout the nation.
Recent international projects include providing medical and educational equipment in Mexico, Guatemala, Thailand and Nigeria. We have also completed water projects in Mexico and Thailand.
My goal for this year is to support Mentor Me and to eradicate polio throughout the world.
We meet from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays at Mister McGoo’s Restaurant, 1375 Petaluma Boulevard North. For more information about our club, please feel free to contact me or the club’s secretary, Steve Olmsted.
