SCARC Dinner at the Miracle League Field

Trisha Young and Judy Allewelt were busy checking in the guests.

Guests were welcomed with pre-dinner appetizers...

... and, no host beverages, served by a lovely group of bartenders.

It was a beautiful evening for socializing, the weather was perfect!

Casa Grande students were busy in the kitchen preparing dinner.

And then, it was time to serve.

We heard from our District 5130 Governor, Jim O'Grady, who was in attendance.

The evening presentation was all about RYLA.

Our own Cassie Pitkin gave a lovely presentation and introduced the campers.

The RYLA campers.

And, at the end of the evening, all hands were on deck for clean up!

HAPPY FALL/HAPPY AUTUMN...Sunday, Sept. 22. Now why do we have two words for the same season? Inquiring minds want to know so "Google to the rescue!"

In the UK, they call it Autumn from the Latin 'Autumnus' where the root of the word means..."The passing of the year." While here in the USA we call it Fall .."because the leaves FALL down! "

Much to do about nothing!

But after President Ricardo was interviewed by Sienna Kelly, a Broadcast Journalism major at Petaluma High, he glided up to the podium to sound the infamous bell and call our meeting to order.

Chris Elzi was asked to lead the assemblage of Rotarians in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Then President Ricardo led the group in a resounding rendition of God Bless America.

The Thought of the Day was provided by Kristen Myburgh, who emphasized that we all should take care of ourselves during these hectic times.

The ever-knowledgeable Chris Ranney took to the mic to remind us that our Club is hosting this month's SCARC dinner at the Miracle League Field on Thursday evening, Sept. 26. BE THERE OR BEWARE!

He also mentioned our upcoming Field Trip set for Thursday, Oct. 3 to Petaluma River Park. (Please sign up with Secretary Gail)

Onita Pellegrini was selling Rotary Foundation tickets for baskets of goodies donated by Rotary Clubs throughout the District. Most Rotarians made donations of $100 for 6 tickets to be matched toward our Paul Harris by the Club

Brandon Trammell took to the forefront to inform us that his Environmental Committee was assembled and encouraged each of us to do our part in collecting reusable plastic materials.

With free time on the agenda our affable President decided to hand out some good natured fines. Mike Caruana was cited and agreed to $50 for planning to unite with his son in Germany where they will head to their homeland, Malta.

Then our Chamber CEO, Onita Pellegrini was cited for her trip to Italy earlier this year with two former schoolmates. Sadly the remnants of that trip was a broken bone in her wrist, yet no sympathy here and a $100 fine was accepted!

When the winning raffle number was called out, a gleeful Brandon Trammell had the winning ticket and he garnered the money stone, KUDOS!

Rick Gorman came to the podium to introduce our special guest, . . .

. . . Steve Mahrt of Petaluma Egg Farm. The family-owned business of Petaluma Egg Farm dates back to its inception in 1893. Mahrt's discussion was on The Challenges of Agribusiness in Sonoma County. The informative presentation was followed by a spirited question and answer session. As an aside Jonathan Mahrt, who tells me he is interested in joining our club, was in the audience to hear his dad's presentation.

HAPPY FALL/HAPPY AUTUMN.,.,.,lyricists seem to favor Autumn...".Autumn Leaves"..yet "Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall" works well too in "That's What Friends Are For."

And so it goes!
