President RICK “GetCoin” GORMAN opened our 2nd “hybrid meeting” (in-person + Zoom) at precisely 12:40 p.m., whereupon he immediately had Past-President CHRIS “The Mogul” RANNEY lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
CHRIS “The Suit” ELZI, filling in for MIA Past-President MICHAEL “The Cape” CARUANA, then delivered a pithy Thought for the Day!
After noting that there were no Visiting Rotarians or guests of Rotarians among us, the Prez had BRIAN “Bull Run” BREEN give us a Super Raffle report. Brian gave kudos to SHERRY “The Shill” BURWEN for being the Clubhouse leader in ticket sales thus far. If you want to try to catch her, or just need more tickets to sell, call Brian or the Prez, and you can drop off your ticket sales $$ with either one of them, as well. Rising to the lure of easy money, the Prez pledged to personally sell at least 100 tickets and challenged all of us to beat him (I can just see the new Exchange Bank promo now: “Open a new checking or savings account before February 25, 2022 and get a free Rotary Super Raffle ticket”)!! Oh, well, get them while their hot!
CHRIS RANNEY followed-up with an update on the annual Crab Feed event (February 25) and reported that there have already been 65 tickets sold! So, if you’re interested in enjoying a great crab meal get your order in ASAP (see the Club website for details). Chris went on to inform us that this year it will be possible to eat your crab dinner at the pick-up site (AMF Boulevard Bowl) – call RAINEY “The Know” HOWE for dining details.
After finally welcoming all of the Zoom attendees to our meeting, the Prez called upon MIKE “The Barbie” FERRIS regarding his and Joanne’s recent trip down under to at long last meet their newest granddaughter who is now 18 months old!!! Mike was a $100 proud grandpa and went on to share that their youngest daughter (Bridget) is getting married in 2 weeks! Hopefully, Mike has some $$ left after the wedding to pay another big fine!! He also confessed to being the spokesman for a new McEvoy Ranch jalapeno pepper olive product…no royalties yet, but certainly all the spicy hot olives he can eat, right?
Raffle ticket #8830083 proved to be a winner for Past-President JOANNE “The Scoop” FERRIS, who pulled the coveted brown rock which was good for $250.00 cash!
BRANDON “Let’s Go” TRAMMEL then introduced our speaker,
Trathen Heckman, the Executive Director of the Daily Acts Organization, who gave us a very informative presentation on the power of small for big transformations and the blueprint for sustainable living through small groups and gardens. He received a nice bottle of wine in appreciation for a program well received.
WHEREUPON, the Prez, after confirming that the Club is indeed dark next Thursday (January 27), summarily adjourned the meeting. See you all the week after next!

Petaluma Rotary Club President Rick Gorman called our "Hybrid" meeting to order.
Hybrid "Zoomers" joined the meeting.
Dan Berry led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Former president, Chris Ranney, gave the Thought for the Day. The quote, by Thomas Merton, was chosen to relate to the current health crisis (A.K.A. Covid): "You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope."
Chris also gave an update on the 2022 Drive Through Crab and Pasta Feed on Friday, February 25, 2022. Pick up is from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the AMF Bowling Lanes parking lot at 1100 Petaluma Blvd South. The dinner includes: fresh cracked crab, pasta, salad, rolls and butter. The cost is $75, which serves one (1.5 lbs. of crab plus sides). $150 serves two (3 lbs. of crab plus sides). $300 serves four (6 lbs. of crab plus sides). "Last year our net was $4,000 and this year we hope to net $8,000 - $9,000" said Ranney.
Super Raffle tickets are also available for $30 each with a chance to win $8,000.
Tickets are available at: www.petalumarotary.org
Raine Howe has reserved a room at the bowling alley for 50 people or so (Rotarians only) to enjoy the crab feed in-person. Please contact Raine if you're interested.
Brian Breen pitched the Super Raffle and is hopeful that each member will sell 10 tickets. No teams exist this year, but we need to sell 400 tickets to break even. Typically, we sell 1,600 tickets and our club sold close to 1,600 tickets last year (2021). The drawing will be the first Thursday after the crab feed, which is Thursday, March 03, 2022.
Former president Anne Gealta won the weekly raffle (bottle of wine!).
Lee Reposa gave a Craft Talk and discussed his life growing up in Petaluma. He is a 4th generation Petaluman. Lee and his wife Kara were high school sweethearts and have three children: Audrey, 18, Lauren, 16 and Grant, 12. Lee's mother and father both grew up in Petaluma and his father was a mechanic and home builder. "I grew up working on cars and helping my dad build homes" said Reposa. Lee graduated from college at UC Santa Barbara and worked for HP. However, after a short time he decided to change careers and went into banking and mergers. The Miracle League was the big project during is Rotary presidency (great job and thank you for your continued support!).
Dan Berry introduced our guest speaker, Drake Cunningham, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Petaluma (RTP). Drake has an extensive career in home building. His experience as a former general contractor, project manager, general superintendent and small business owner, has taught him many valuable lessons and skills that align well with the services that RTP provides. Drake was the Board President of the Petaluma Arts Center and RTP’s Board President for 6 years before taking the position of Executive Director. According to the RTP website, for more than 20 years, RTP has been dedicated to repairing the homes of our neighbors in need. Their work falls across the entire spectrum of home repair and accessibility modifications. Sometimes it is ordering a water heater replacement for a senior who has not had hot water for several months, calling in the exterminator for a veteran with a major rat infestation, or organizing volunteers to build a ramp for a disabled individual with no accessible way in and out of their home. Whatever the need, wthey rely on an extensive network of partners, local businesses, and their force of over 600 highly skilled and community volunteers to respond quickly and effectively. Low-Income homeowners in Petaluma, particularly seniors, disabled persons, and families are eligible to apply for services. Non-profit organizations may also apply for repairs to facilities.
