THE FINAL CURTAIN FOR QUEEN ANNE
It was a fashionable, jewel bedecked tiara adorning her golden locks, ever vivacious Queen Anne who greeted fellow Rotarians at the Adobe Road Winery for her final Hurrah! Yes, the Queen was hosting her last meeting of the year...up close and very personal! After a long year of zoom meetings aligned in squares, what an amazing feeling to confront each other, hug and greet maskless and secure! Thank God for the vaccines!
The Queen, Suzanne and Chris model their Pepsodent smiles.
Queen Anne toasts Al during the festivities.
Judy snuggles up to the Fullertons.
Some Rotarians grabbed their seats like Mike, Shari and Carolyn.
Mr. Zimmerman and Mr. Brandal catch the camera's eye
After several minutes of warm greetings and warmer wine tasting, Queen Anne brought the lively group to attention by ringing the Rotary Bell.
Since it was her last meeting to reign, she decided to lead the raucous group in the Pledge of Allegiance...and for the first time in over a year we recited it in sync, loud and clear!
Queen Anne also gave us a poignant and personal 'Thought of the Day' tied into the true meaning of "Service Above Self."
The guests who were invited to attend included Onita's co-worker Shelly and her sister-in-law Diana, as well as Michael C's lovely bride Diane. And thereafter, Queen Anne took center stage to elaborate on her year in office facing the challenges of the pandemic, yet successfully running two fund raising campaigns; one to support the Polly Klaas Theater project and the other our annual biggie...the Crab Feed. Both proved to be blockbusters financially! In addition to her astute management skills, the Queen discussed how Rotary strengthened her social network and gave her renewed self-confidence. Hurray for Rotary!
Next on the agenda the Queen recognized her illustrious Board of Directors who helped steer her through her 2020-2021 reign. She brought forward a bag of cleverly designed hats for each member as follows...
Chris Ranney.....KING OF ALL KINGS
Brandon Trammell...FAMILY COMES FIRST
Brett Shinn...KING OF THE ROAD
Elias Husary....QUEEN'S SERVANT
Mike Ferris....MONEY MAN
Joanne Ferris...GO TO GAL
Rick Gorman....EEYORE
Suzanne Tucker...PROGRAM QUEEN
Gail Cardaropoli...WORDSMITH
Onita Pellegrini...QUEEN AROUND TOWN
Maggie Radany...PARTY QUEEN
Judy McReynolds...DECORATING QUEEN
Raine Howe....POLLY'S ANGEL Todd Mendoza....PERFECT ATTENDANCE
Royce Van Bebber...100th PRESIDENT
Mike Baddeley....COURT JESTER
Doug Hecker....BMOC
And as I sat and wondered..."What happened to my hat? Did she forget me, etc., etc"... lo and behold, I start hearing things that sound very familiar. OMG don 't tell me..
Are you serious?? Is it ME, MOI, MICH, MIM, MEH, YO....in any language am I hearing my name called as the ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR? .Not a fluke. The Queen has announced it and I am truly humbled by the cheers from my fellow Rotarians!
I am thrilled with the plaque and the words...”in appreciation and recognition of distinguished service, loyalty and devotion to the ideals of Rotary". This is indeed an honor that I deeply cherish and a cap that I will proudly wear as the ROTY. (No, she didn't forget me...no way!)
And so we come to the end of Queen Anne's reign. But not yet...we have a lot in store for you Your Highness! We are so looking forward to Friday, June 18th..Debunking Extraordinaire!!
Enter King Rick....all hail the King!
