PRESIDENT TOM opened his first meeting of February with a big smile. Seven months down and five more to go. The Pledge of Allegiance was the first order of business and was followed by songbird BARNEY FAUSS who led the club in the singing of “God Bless America”.
JANE SALDAÑA-TALLEY followed with a very inspiring “Thought For The Day” based on the way we treat people. Jane gave several examples of how good deeds are appreciated far beyond our expectations by those who receive them.
JUDY ALLEWELT introduced our lone visiting Rotarian from the Petaluma Sunrise Club.
PRESIDENT TOM opened the Sunshine Report by announcing that TED ADKINS was home and feeling much better. President Tom said Ted would enjoy a phone call and encouraged us to give him a call.
Announcements: PRESIDENT TOM announced the February Anniversaries of the following members: JOANNE FERRIS, PAT SCHAFER, BILL LANE, NANCY COOLEY, and LORETTA CATAROZOLI.
ONITA PELLEGRINI announced that nominations are being accepted for the Annual Community Awards. Onita reminded us that several club members have been recipients of the awards in past years and asked club members to submit names of anyone they think who would be deserving of receiving an award.
RICK MOSSI updated the current sale of raffle tickets for our upcoming raffle. Rick reported that 426 have been sold to date and that NANCY COOLEY’s team was leading in most ticket sales. Rick also thanked those members who had sold over 20 tickets and encouraged everyone to get their tickets in as we only have two weeks to go. PRESIDENT TOM informed the club that raffle proceeds benefit our local community.
JAMES BURLESON reported that Crab Feed ticket sales were over 450. He encouraged people to get their money in as table assignments would be in progress and only those with paid tickets would be assigned a table.
PRESIDENT TOM then went on to fining members. Past President LOU STEINBERG asked to say a few words and explained how he was so thankful to the many members of the club who helped keep his sprits high during his battle with cancer. He said this along with the support of his family enabled him to make it through some very difficult times. He also mentioned how thankful he was that his daughter’s family was back in the U.S. which would allow him to see his grandchildren more frequently than when they were in England. Lou offered up a fine to the club and was thanked by President Tom for his support of the club’s Interact Clubs and RYLA activities.
ANDY KVALHEIM was thanked for being a song leader by President Tom and then questioned about recent trips. Andy said the trips were a result of his wife doing much better after receiving two heart valve replacements. He was thankful that everything worked out well and that they could take short trips to Monterey and the Mendocino Coast. Andy gladly offered up a generous fine.
Lucky JUDY ALLEWELT had the winning raffle ticket but could not pull the brown rock from the bag. She did however receive a bottle of wine for her winning ticket.
Today’s speaker Ryan Eastman was introduced to the club by NANCY COOLEY. Ryan is a local student who is a member of TEAM SWIFT. Team Swift is dedicated to promoting the importance of athletics, academic and community through the joy of cycling. Ryan told of how his hard work has enabled him to take part in many cycling events in the U.S.A. and Europe. Currently he has qualified to participate in the U.S. Junior National Team Race in Europe this year. He is currently riding over 280 miles weekly to prepare for the event. Ryan answered many question from club members and ended his talk by showing the club his racing bicycle which is valued at more than $4,000.00.
