Your editor won the 3rd quarter of the Sunrise Rotary Pool and bragged about his new Grandson AGAIN, so he gave the $200 winnings to the JR Scholarship Fund.

. . . STEVE RUSTAD to come forward and led us in song. Steve announced that our song for today would be “My Country Tis of Thee”.
ACTING PRESIDENT HENRY asked GAIL CARDAROPOLI to give today’s invocation. Gail's invocation focused on 10 Thoughts for Valentines Day and how we could benefit from each of them.
LARRY JONAS was asked to come forward. Larry gave a Special Tribute to our fellow Rotarian JOHN RAMATICI who recently passed away. Larry started out by quoting Abraham Lincoln who said, “ Honor Those Who fall In Battle”. John was definitely a person that we all honor. Larry told us of how John joined the Club in 1990 and was always giving so much to others, always supporting the club 100%. Larry told of several events that exemplified how John was always going the extra mile to help others. Larry announced that a Scholarship has been set up in John’s name. Please contact Larry for details. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Ramatici Family.

RICK MOSSI gave a report on the Crab Feed Raffle. Thanks to a lot of hard work the old record of 1564 ticket sales was shattered this year, as 1849 tickets were sold. The top four selling teams were: 4th BRIDGET DOHERTY’s Team-241 tickets, 3rd TOM BAKER’s Team-251 tickets, 2nd HENRY HANSEL’s Team – 341 tickets, and the winning team KIP HERZOG’s Team – 342 tickets. Rick thanked everyone for making the success of this year’s raffle.
ACTING PRESIDENT HENRY called on Past President BABE AMARAL to explain how it came about that his wallet was found in the Ladies Restroom on the evening of the Crab Feed. Babe tried to plead ignorance . . .
. . . until a picture was shown with Babe and two ladies.
Acting President Henry produced a bag with a pair of Babe’s Cowboy Boots.
Babe gladly paid $25.00/boot to settle the matter.
ACTING PRESIDENT HENRY asked GEOFF ELLIS if his wife was aware of his photos at the Crab Feed. Seems that he was also featured in a photo with two young ladies. Jeff was speechless and gladly paid a fine to get this all behind him.
ACTING PRESIDENT HENRY asked ERIK GUNHEIM to stand up for some questioning on football. Erik said he was not a football fan and he did not even watch the Super Bowl. It was then revealed that Erik signed a square in a Super Bowl Pool, refused to pay the $20.00 and forgot about it. That is until he got a phone call telling him he had won $400.00. Erik reported that he still was not a football fan. As for his winnings, Erik announced that he was donating the $400.00 to the John Ramatici Scholarship Fund. Thanks, Erik.

As we walked into the Sunset Line & Twine building on Lakeville, we were immediately brought back in time as the smell of a building built in 1892 was quickly apparent and the noise of machines, well past their prime, rung in our ears. We checked in as usual amid an old office and made our way through the spools of twine. After browsing through history, we made our way up the curvy staircase to a reception of wine and beverages. Tables lined the room ready for a huge Rotary meeting. The room was filled with Rotarians from all clubs and lots of guests.
PRESIDENT TAWNY brought the meeting to order after a huge round of applause from a most appreciative audience.
BARNEY FAUSS led us in a jolly rendition of “I’m a Rambler” . . .
. . . followed by an enthusiastic “God Bless America”.
JUDI ALLEWELT gave the invocation. She talked about the word “change”. The dictionary reads “to make or become different; alter”. Not only do we make changes in our lives, we hope our enemies can make changes in theirs.
The huge crowd seemed to enjoy our tradition of hugs and handshakes. RALPH HAYWARD introduced 14 visiting Rotarians and their guests. The Rotarians with guests were then introduced.
PRESIDENT TAWNY announced the wedding anniversaries for February and the Rotarian of the Month.
It was only fitting that ROBERT MITCHELL receive the award. He does a lot for our international projects and organized this wonderful day.
RICK MOSSI took center stage next and announced that BRIDGET DOHERTY’s team in the Super Raffle Ticket competition was in first place. Remember, the winning team gets a pig barbecue dinner at Kastania Winery. All tickets must be turned in to RICK by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8th at RICK’s office at Exchange Bank. Don’t forget to get a nice bottle of wine to TAWNY’s office by Tuesday, February 6th for the live auction. Remember the event is February 9th and you can still get tickets at STEVE HENRIS’ office.
LARRY JONAS was called on next. LARRY has started a scholarship in JOHN RAMATICI’s honor. He has coordinated the scholarship with the Petaluma Education Foundation. It will be the first time PEP has had a scholarship program and will be awarded in June of each year.
The PRESIDENT started her fining with MARCUS BENEDETTI. This editor could not hear why MARCUS needed to be picked on or how much he paid. It had to do with Clover in the Press Democrat that morning.
JUDY ALLEWELT was then awarded her Chicken Badge. It seems like it’s been a long time coming. YEAH JUDY!!
It seems that WALLY BRAGDON and ED FULLERTON have recently had some added income brought into their homes. Their wives recently won a bridge contest at Petaluma Golf & Country Club. The big prize was $25 each.
BRIDGET DOHERTY was seen snorkeling in Belize. She blamed her wonderful trip on KIP’s wife, Marilyn.
It looks like KIP’s much younger wife is still working. She organized the trip. That cost KIP $25 and BRIDGET $50.
TOM BRANDAL and his wife, Kathy, have been missing for about 3 weeks. They were on a fabulous cruise to Australia and New Zealand. PRESIDENT TAWNY socked them for $50 for that little trip down under.
PRESIDENT TAWNY thanked ROBERT MITCHELL for organizing this special lunch. He then introduced his partner, . . .
. . . Skip Sommer. Skip gave us the background of this historical building. The building was the brainstorm of John McNear in 1892. ROBERT finished the program with a brief description of the future plans for the building. Condominiums and a beautiful park will preserve the site.
NEW DATE Farmers & Merchants Night is Friday, March 23. Check your calendar! |
