Pastor LARRRY “moving to Prescott, AZ” GOTFREDSON led us with words of wisdom and a blessing that all volunteers do travel abroad at one time. We had no visiting Rotarians. Several members brought guests; some were future Rotarians.
Note the new figures!
STAN LAWSON said there was no Sunshine report, but please notify him if you hear of any sunshine.
Chris, Kathy, Dean and Larry enjoy their $5 birthday cake.
The Birthday Table was almost empty as GRETA VIGUIE and DAVID AMUNDSEN had excuses for not sitting at the birthday table; it cost them double.
Tom tries to collect from Steve.
Two new members’ birthdays were not listed and PRESIDENT TAWNY tried unsuccessfully to fine Secretary STEVE OLMSTED.
GAIL CARDAROPOLI transferred into the club. Welcome Gail!
GRETA then informed the Scholarship committee that they would meet after lunch.
WHIT HALL announced that it was International Literacy Year and that his committee would meet on Monday morning at 8am at Tawny’s office at the fairgrounds to discuss new programs for McKinley School.
JIM BECKER is Chairman of the Mentor Committee for new members and they will meet after next Thursday’s lunch meeting.
JEANNETTE CLARK announced the dates for the Friendship Feast, which is our club fundraiser for the Dictionary Program. Those dates (and all should have received an invitation in the mail) are Oct 14th, 15th, 20th and Nov 5th, as well as a Brunch in Napa on the 28th of October or a Cocktail Party that same evening. On October 22nd there is the option of a family party. Contact MICHAEL BADDELEY’s office with your choice or send in your response with your invitation.
GAIL CARDAROPOLI, our newest member, reminded everyone to buy their Rotary Foundation raffle tickets. Purchase price counts towards your Paul Harris. The Foundation Dinner is at the Sheraton Petaluma on the 14th of October.
Your editor hopes to see all of you at the Tri-club BBQ at McNear park this Saturday from 11am to 3pm.

JERRY GILLESPIE was fined $20 for falling asleep at Past President Babe’s meeting. Jerry blamed it on the speaker.
JEANNETTE was fined $25 for her new Granddaughter.
PAUL LOUNIBOS was fined $50 because . . .
. . . BABE joined the year he was President and PRESIDENT TAWNY matched the fine for joining any club that would accept Babe.

HERB BUNDESEN won the raffle and a fine bottle of wine.

All three Petaluma Rotary Clubs and a large cadre of Rotary politicos were gathered in the main hall of the Veterans Memorial to honor and witness the dedication of PAST ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT CLIFF DOCHTERMAN.
PRESIDENT TAWNY TESCONI stood beside her counterparts and gave a warm welcome to our fellow Rotarians. HERB BUNDESEN gave a wonderful invocation . . .
. . . and DISTRICT GOVERNOR NOMINEE ED FULLERTON introduced honored Rotarians.
ROBERT MITCHELL received the Alumni Volunteers Pin in recognition of his dedication to the International Project in Mexico.
There were several tributes to the outstanding service of Rotarians in our area, but the main attraction was PAST ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT CLIFF DOCHTERMAN. PRESIDENT TAWNY TESCONI eloquently introduced our speaker and from the onset he delighted and captivated the audience. PAST ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT CLIFF DOCHTERMAN was humorous, self-deprecating, and, most importantly, poignant. His life experiences through Rotary International were riveting and his message was clear:
“True happiness comes when you help others” and
“Being a member of Rotary does not make you a Rotarian”
It was evident in his stories that the efforts PAST ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT CLIFF DOCHTERMAN put into his projects was far exceeded by the rewards he received by helping others. From his leadership in establishing the Polio Project throughout the world to the local efforts at his home club, PAST ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT CLIFF DOCHTERMAN is the embodiment of Service Above Self.
Thank you and God Bless You.

September 21 - Cliff Dochterman, Rotary International President, 1992-93 ($20 tri-club luncheon)
September 28 - Dr. Peter Bernstein - “Healing Emotional & Physical Trauma…Without Drugs”
September 30 - Tri-Club Family BBQ, McNear Park
PRESIDENT TAWNY called the meeting to order and to everyone’s surprise asked BABE AMARAL to come forward and lead us in song. Babe responded by saying, “Who, me?” PRESIDENT TAWNY said “Yes, you!” and Babe took Front Stage. Babe started by saying “I need help” and asked BARNEY FAUSS to come forward.
The Babe and Barney Duet then led us in God Bless America.
JOANNE FERRIS came forward and gave The Thought For The Day. She quoted Mark Twain with his comments on Freedom, Speculation, and Concerns.
PAT SCHAEFER followed by introducing visiting Rotarians from the Petaluma Sunrise, Petaluma Valley and Novato Rotary Clubs.
The following Rotarians introduced their guests: HARVEY FREETLY, LORETTA CATAROZOLI, CARRIE PIERSON, ANDY KVALHEIM and LOU STEINBERG who introduced . . .
. . . this year’s foreign exchange student.
PRESIDENT TAWNY then asked JUDI ALLEWELT to come forward and give her Craft Talk. Judi started by saying that she had taught the children of many present Rotary members. She was born, raised, and educated in San Francisco. After receiving her teaching degree she accepted a low paying job in Petaluma because she had spent time in Petaluma and enjoyed the small town atmosphere. In 1980 she received her Real Estate license and eventually stopped teaching after 30 years to work in the Real Estate full time. She was married twice and both of her husbands are deceased. She has a son and daughter, two step-daughters and is raising her grand-daughter who turned 18 today. Congratulations Judi on a great craft talk.
PRESIDENT TAWNY then asked LARRY GOTFREDSON to come forward and accept a special Thank You Gift for all that he has done for our club. Seems that Larry and his wife will be moving to Prescott, Arizona in the near future. Larry thanked everyone and said he will never forget Petaluma and al the friends he met over the years. I’m sure Larry will think of us when it’s 118 degrees in Arizona. Thank you Larry for all you have done for this community over the years.
Committee Reports:
JAMES GOTELLI reported that the “Relay for Life Walk” would take place this week at Casa Grande High School. This is a fundraiser for the Cancer Society. Any support would be appreciated.
ONITA PELLEGRINI announced that tickets are on sale thru Oct. 14 for the District Foundation Raffle. The drawing will take place at the District Dinner on Oct. 14, which will be at the Petaluma Sheraton Hotel.
CLARK ROSEN reminded us that new members are always welcome. If you know of a prospective member contact Clark.
LOU STEINBERG reminded everyone of the Rotary Club BBQ at Mc Near Park on Sept. 30th. Also Lou could use some help on Oct.30th cooking at Casa Grande High School for the interact students.
PRESIDENT TAWNY then announced that everyone not wearing a Rotary Pin would be fined $1.00. Sorry, Club Badges were not acceptable as Pins.
PRESIDENT TAWNY then moved into fining individuals. First up was BARNEY FAUSS. Seems Barney never showed up for the meeting Past President BABE AMARAL ran a couple of weeks ago even though he was seen in the building. At this point GARY BRODIE said the same was true for last week. Gary was fined $10.00 for not standing when addressing the President and Barney was back on defense. As hard as he tried Barney could not put up a strong enough case that he was tending to social events at the Vets Hall and should be cleared of missing meetings. Barney agreed to a $40.00 fine if the conversation ended without his exact location in the hall being reveled.
At this point PRESIDENT TAWNY prepared to draw the raffle ticket number, but was interrupted by RALPH SARTORI. Ralph asked PRESIDENT TAWNY if her gavel was still missing? Needless to say the answer was yes. Ralph then said that he was in possession of a picture that may be of interest to her. He said something about finding the picture in the parking lot, which may help solve the case of the traveling gavel. He then presented PRESIDENT TAWNY the picture . . .
. . . and her facial expression told all that someone was about to be called on the carpet. PRESIDENT Tawny then called . . .
. . . Past President DON RAMATICI to stand up and explain the picture of her gavel on his private office desktop. Don said she must be kidding and that he (being an insurance agent) would need proof. The picture was given to Don which showed PRESIDENT TAWNY’s gavel on his desk with a picture of Don and his wife Jan in the background.
Don then said something about RALPH SARTORI being his cousin and the thickness of family blood at times like this. Ralph stuck by his story. As it was getting late PRESIDENT TAWNY asked Don to bring Legal Counsel to the next meeting. Don started to speak but was told bring Legal Counsel and a checkbook to the next meeting. Thus the “HAVE GAVEL – WILL TRAVEL” saga continues.
DAVE AMUNDSEN won the raffle prize and took home a bottle of wine.
LORETTA CATAROZOLI introduced the program speaker . . .
. . . Grayson James who along with Cliff Kendall informed the club of the new “Building it Green in Petaluma Program”. This new voluntary program was explained in detail to club members. The program details are available on the City of Petaluma’s web site.
Don’t miss next week's meeting, as DON RAMATICI needs your support!

. . . and CHRIS "The Fin" BLAKESLEY $25 (for his English Channel swim). She also wanted to fine BARNEY "Big Gulp" FAUSS, but he was MIA!
In her never ending quest to find her gavel, . . .
. . . the Prez then gazed longingly at an anonymous photograph . . .
. . . evidencing a recent sighting of ye ole gavel at a local golf course . . .
. . . —she called GARY "Third Wheel" BRODIE on the carpet to explain, but like his idol, Sgt. Schultz (if you don’t' remember Hogan's Hero, skip this part), Gary "saw nothing" and "knows nothing" concerning the mystery gavel—stay tuned!
Bill Groverman won a bottle of wine.
After the raffle, . . .
. . . JOANNE "Scoop" FERRIS introduced our speaker, . . .
. . . Rotary District Membership Chair Maureen Merrill, who gave an informative presentation on Rotary Membership and creative ways to make it happen. She received a Rotary memento for her efforts, and a book was donated in her name to the PHS Library.
Onita, John and Mike form a great membership team.
The meeting was adjourned, but not before the Prez fined HARVEY FREETLEY'S son $5 for attending UC Davis with the Prez, and partying…er, sitting on the livestock judging panel with her!
See you next week!
