After PRESIDENT BABE AMARAL struck the bell, GENE BENEDETTI led us in a rousing version of “God Bless America”. When he waves his cane at you it really makes you sing louder.
The REVEREND DAN LIBARLE gave the thought for the day. His message was the lasting legacy of the 4-way Test. If we can teach our children and grandchildren the value of this creed, then maybe the world will become a better place. Amen and thank you, Dan.
CARRIE PIERSON introduced visiting Rotarians . . .
. . . and JOHN DADO reported on the Golf Tournament. The Tournament dinner had almost 100 people in attendance. Congratulations to all those who helped make it a success.
PRESIDENT BABE quickly moved into fine collections and dinged MIKE BADDELEY for $75. It seems MIKE forgot to bring his passports along for a family vacation in Canada, but his top-notch staff was able to forward them and all Baddeley members returned safely to Petaluma.
DOUG GARRISON reported on the 5 scholarships that our Club awarded to graduating high school seniors. Each received a $500 gift, which will certainly help towards the cost of higher education (think keg party in the dorm).
Congrats to GEORGE TOMASINI, who celebrated 85 years yesterday and all the other birthday table attendees.
DANIEL MARSH introduced his wife and announced they had recently become grandparents. Mazel Tov. GINA PITTLER introduced her guest . . .
. . . and TED ADKINS was fined $20 for an incriminating photo. (we’ll have it posted on the web site anyway).
Our own Editor and Webmaster, AL CATTALINI was $50 poorer for misidentifying our President, . . .
. . . as was CHRIS ALBERTSON for a recent trip to the Florida Panhandle.
GENE BENEDETTI was also taken for $50. It seems he’s been getting a lot of press lately and PRESIDENT BABE wanted to get his attention.
JOHN DADO was fined $50 for his recent winnings at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, . . .
. . . as was MARK STOKES who won four times as much as John and only got fined $50.
JOHN SCHARER drew the winning raffle ticket and left the cast for next week.
LOU STEINBERG introduced our guest speaker, Larry Lazar from Lomas Development.
Larry gave a terrific presentation on his group’s development of the Dutra Quarry, located at the south end of town. Over 300 families will eventually live and work in the 46 acres. There will be three different phases of dwellings, from lofts to townhomes to cottages. Thank you, Larry for your time and we wish you success in your endeavors.
Ciao

CLARIFICATION OF BABE'S "NO SHORTS" POLICY
Those male members who are coming to the meetings in shorts are going to be subject to the wrath of our President, however he thinks Bermudas are OK!.
The bell sounded at precisely 12:30 and PRESIDENT BABE brought the meeting to order.
TED ADKINS led us in song with “God Bless America”. It was kind of a weak start, but TED got us going and then we sounded really good.
DOUG GARRISON gave the invocation. He quoted John Kennedy, “With danger comes opportunities.”
The usual hugs and handshakes quickly followed.
DAN REED introduced the visiting Rotarians. The Rotarians with guests were then introduced. DON RAMATICI introduced his handsome grandson, Andy. ED FULLERTON was lucky to have his wife, Carol and her sister, Mary Beth with him. FRED FROST brought his wife, Linda. I think the ladies were eager to hear our guest speaker and justify a new piece of jewelry.
ONITA PELLEGRINI challenged all the Past Presidents to buy a brick for the McNear Peninsula Park. Sales will close soon.
PRESIDENT BABE announced the anniversaries for the month. Many years have collectively gone by since NORM SANTOS, AL CATTALINI, JOHN SCHARER, CHET SWANSON AND CARRIE PIERSON got hitched.
The fining began with PRESIDENT BABE revealing some activities seen by his apparent spies and informants at the Sonoma County Fair.
. . . . STEVE POWELL was seen with oodles of money sticking out of his pocket. After a little coaxing by the PREZ, he confessed to total winnings at the horse races of $730. $50 soon went to the Club.
Bad luck BETTINELLI was up next. There was a Cadillac parked on Old Adobe Road and a guy who resembled RALPH running around picking up the contents of a wallet in between traffic. RALPH soon admitted that he left his wallet on top of his car as he drove out of his driveway. After about an hour, he recovered most of his important papers. The only thing missing were some of his prize recipes. PRESIDENT BABE does have a heart. There was no fine mentioned.
The story that followed was a little confusing. RALPH was trying to insinuate that the PREZ was a bad sport. The story, according to RALPH, suggested that PRESIDENT BABE owed a guy $20 and paid him back by ripping the bill in half and throwing it at him. The PREZ was also teasing a dog whose leash was longer than the PREZ thought and it bit him. RALPH wanted the Club to give the PREZ $20 to go to Church. KATHY O’CONNOR wanted to know what Church he was going to, so she could leave before he got there.
TENNY TUCKER had to see KATHY O’CONNOR for treatment after his escapades at the Nugget and golf in Reno. That cost him $10.
JIM MICKELSON had to pay dearly for having two great kids. The PREZ pointed out that Marcia had a lot to do with that too. JIM’s son, Bobbie, won Supreme Champion for Steer at the Sonoma County Fair. His daughter, Jamie, has also won that title in the past.
. . . . NANCY KOENITZER added that her meeting that morning got interrupted by one of her clients who wanted to discuss Bobbie and Jamie’s accomplishments. When PRESIDENT BABE asked JIM what he wanted to give to the Club for having such great kids, JIM proudly gave $100.
It seems STEVE POWELL’s luck continued as he walked off with a bottle of wine for winning the raffle.
NIT had an announcement that PRESIDENT BABE forgot. If you’re interested in going to Bangkok, NIT needs to know by September 15th. The air fare is $970 and the rooms are only $40 a night. The good PRESIDENT offered up $20 for forgetting. What a guy!
JIM BECKER introduced our guest speaker, Peter Wolf.
. . . . Peter is a gemologist. He gave us a very enlightening talk about diamonds and precious gems. One needs to do their homework before making a major purchase.

Excuse yourself to the speaker and Babe if you need to leave early. |

President BABE AMARELLE opened the meeting at precisely 12:30 p.m. (or thereabouts), and immediately had KEITH STOLCHINAYA lead us in song (God Bless America).
Past-President JEANNETTE CLOCKWORK then delivered a monetary invocation (“yesterday is a cancelled check, tomorrow is a promissory note, today is the only cash you have, so spend it wisely.” Ed. Note: But whatever you do, don’t take any IOU’s!). The customary greetings, handshakes and hugs ensued.
JAMES GOTELLI, someone to close the casket then introduced the visiting Rotarians among us. There were no guests of Rotarians. Next, the Prez informed us that Past President JIM MICKELSON’s paternal grandfather recently passed away after living a full life for 103 years – our thoughts and prayers are with Jim and his family.
TAWNY TUSCANY then announced that the Petaluma Valley Rotary Club was bashing us in the brick sales contest for the McNear Peninsula Park project – contact Tawny (or click here) if you are interested in purchasing a commemorative brick or two. The Prez then announced that he would like 4 -5 Rotary couples to attend An Evening With Cliff Dochterman (Past Rotary International President) on Wednesday, August 11, 5:00 p.m. at the Roxy 14 Stadium Theatre in downtown Santa Rosa. Cliff is a great speaker, so join Babe if you can. Contact Secretary STEVE OLMSTEADY as she goes for details.
Past President MIKE BADDELEY in need of a drink (or vacation) then announced that the Club’s Annual Friendship Feast will be held on the last two weekends of October and that Prez Babe is looking for new hosts to participate. Contact Babe or Mike if you are interested. Apparently Mike’s comments regarding Babe’s leadership acumen and powers of observations (or lack thereof) incited laughter from Past Presidents DAN LIBATION and DON RUMICEE, and the group at their table, at the Prez’s expense, good for a fine of $1.00 each. Past President (and, some believe, future District Governor to be) JOHN DAYDOUGH (think horse racing) then announced that the upcoming (8/16) Annual Golf Tourney is now filled, but he still needs volunteers. Please call immediate Past President ONITA PELLIGRINI and gin with a twist if you can help.
The merciless Prez then fined Dr. AL RICHARDS or poorer $10.00 for finally showing up to a meeting (pssst, hey Babe, he’s Senior Active!!). It was nice to see him again, nevertheless.
DAVE BARBARY Coast was then fined $20.00 for an extended family vacation in the Redwoods,
. . . . while BILL DATORDUDE (the Caterer guy) was fined $20.00 for a birthday cake snafu, and Tawny was fined $10.00 for interrupting the Prez while he was on a role!
Bad Boy Babe went on to fine President-Elect LEE BEAN there, done that, $5.00 for cutting the wayward birthday cake and dinged Secretary Steve a like amount for being related to someone who would do such a thing.
Undaunted, the Prez then fined his own publicist, RICARDO MARZIPAN, $40.00
. . . . for “defaming” MARK STOKES the litigation fires by listing Mark as a “Senior Active” in the Argus Courier (all to Mark’s considerable embarrassment, anguish, emotional distress, etc.), despite Ricardo’s timely public mea culpa and retraction. The whole “ordeal” must’ve really worn on Mark, I mean the guy now looks like a senior active!!!
Finally Past President (in more ways that one!) WALLY BRAGDON me in was debited $50.00 for going on an Alaskan cruise with 12 people.
JAMES BURLEY held the winning raffle ticket, good for a bottle of wine.
Program chairman JOHN DADO then introduced our speakers, Frank and Kathie Mayhew (fellow Rotarians from the Sebastopol Club) who gave us a very informative presentation on the Lend-A-Hand program generally, and the Uganda medicine and clean water projects specifically. A book was donated in their name to the PHS library in appreciation for a program well received. A final announcement was then made by the Prez that anyone interested in participating in our Club’s Thailand international project should contact NIT ANDERSON or daughter, ERIC GUNGHO, and Past President LARRY JOMAMA as soon as possible.
With that, the meeting was summarily adjourned by the bemused Baberamus (a rare, nocturnal creature, seldom seen in the morning light). Have a great weekend.
. . . .
