Troubleshooting Popups on the Club Roster

Welcome! You arrived here after reading this FAQ and clicking the link:

Q. I click a photo but nothing happens (or a window opens but immediately closes). What is the matter?

A. This feature requires that JavaScript be enabled on your computer. Your security settings may have disabled this feature. Also, ad-blocking software may be indiscriminately blocking the roster popups. For more information click here.

Internet Explorer.  New security features incorporated into Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 have complicated or restricted access to many websites including the web pages of the Petaluma Rotary Club. Earlier versions, such as Internet Explorer 6, were more tolerant of legitimate website features that could be exploited by hackers. For information about how to deal with the new features introduced with IE7 click here. This information should be of interest to users of earlier IE versions as well.

Firefox.  Users of the Firefox browser should find things much simpler. Just make sure that Java and JavaScript are enabled. Here's how:

Click Tools, then click Options . . . . When the Options window appears, click the Content tab (world globe logo) . . .

. . . and make certain that the Enable Java and Enable JavaScript boxes are checked. If they're not, click each empty box once to check it. Then click OK. Firefox will now run the scripts used on the Club Roster page. (Don't worry about the Block Popup Windows setting. We'll have more on popups in the next section.) There are advanced JavaScript settings available by clicking the Advanced. . . button, but don't worry about these either. None of the advanced settings will keep your desired windows from opening.

Popup blockers are software programs intended to stop those annoying ads that "pop up" when you open, peruse, or close many web pages. Quality popup blockers stop only popups that operate automatically. (That's how the ads work — they're uninvited, but appear anyway.) Quality popup software won't stop small windows from popping up when you have specifically requested the popup by clicking on a link. That's what you are doing on the Club Roster page.

If you suspect that a popup blocker installed on your computer is blocking proper functioning of the Club Roster page, try temporarily disabling it. Or see if it permits you to specifically allow popups from sites you identify. If it does, enter http://www.petalumarotary.org as a permitted site. We promise we won't send you any advertisements!
